What they did to me at Universal.
* Update below
For readers coming from Gocomics.com, Slate, or Yahoo! News, looking for my cartoons:
Universal Uclick, which supplied my cartoons to all 3 venues above each day, pulled the plug on my cartoons on January 24, 2011, exactly 2 years after I started doing political cartoons for them. I asked them several times for a reason, but they wouldn’t give me one. However, I was one of only 3 women, and I was on the Right.
They call it laid off, I call it fired. I am as shocked as you. As it happens, I ranked very highly, and actually got into the top 10 on Slate, was one of the top ones in Yahoo! News (way above most of the comics!) and almost got in the top 10 in Gocomcs (although the top 10 there, all men, have a lock on that). I was also one of the most commented on Gocomics.
I will give more details in the future. I was supposed to go into comics.com, owned by United, but as you may know, Universal Uclick just bought them last week, so Universal has become a monopoly, and I’m locked out of both cartoon places now. And I have no place online, at least with the syndicates.
Meanwhile, I will try to upload new cartoons here. Also, if you want to complain about this, try Lee Salem at Universal Press. You might also try the Help Desk at Gocomics, or Yahoo!News.
* Update: They replaced me with a man, on the political left – Matt Davies. Curiouser and curiouser.
